Black Triggerfish

My name is Olivia and I am a senior in Architectural Design. I have always had a deep appreciation for nature having grown up in central MA. Being an artist and designer allows me to explore complex concepts through drawing which gives me a clear understanding of my subject.

I am researching the Black Triggerfish. This fish is found in tropics around the globe except the Caribbean. I spotted this fish on a scuba diving trip in Cozumel, Mexico. It’s appearance is black with white stripes along the soft dorsal and anal fins. Upon closer observation in good light, the fish is dark blue with light blue/turquoise colored horizontal markings. More information about the fish will be displayed on my drawing.

I will be creating a detailed colored pencil drawing with leaders/arrows identifying facts and features and illustrating colors and markings usually not seen when in the ocean. I will scan my work every few hours to display the process.

I began with an image of the fish and drew the basic shape and few details with pencil. Now I'm starting to go in with the first layer of colored pencil. Seeing the scans of the drawings are helpful because I see the drawing as a picture and can compare it to my reference image to make changes.
