Artist Bio:

Hi there! I’m a senior in Animation at MassArt. I'm an artist that likes to work in 2D and 3D, but I’m fond of stop motion as well. I like and strive to mix mediums to create a unique look and feel to my art.

Name of Project (A Work in Progress):

The Biosphere Cake Recipe For Penguins

Project Synopsis:

A step by step baking video of how to make the perfect environment in the form of a cake, for the Emperor Penguin, using hand puppets.

Thesis:

With the powers of baking, I am designing an environment for Emperor Penguins of which their evolutionary traits and adaptations are developed from. Keeping in mind the climate, and ability to achieve deep dives without suffering barotrauma, I will make an Arctic themed cake that a miniature penguin could thrive in. Penguins were my favorite animal for all of my childhood, where I had an entire bookshelf dedicated to penguin stuffed animals. This project is a bit of coming back to my favorite animal and reconnecting them through fun.

Materials/Medium/Thoughts:

For this project, I'm going to use my phone to record footage of making the cake, (taking stills of ingredients, video of baking in oven, mixing batter, adding frosting, etc.

I believe I still have a penguin hand puppet from my childhood in which I'll use as a stand in for my hands/ myself. I need baking supplies, ranging from ingredients to pans and tools to everything else in between. Editing and compositing together the footage will be in Adobe After Effects and/or Adobe Premiere.

Optional stuff that I'm considering but not certain about is adding 2D animation/3D animation to the footage which I'll create in the respective programs (Clip Studio Paint and Maya/Blender)

Factoid:

Something to know about Emperor Penguins, is that a major component that contributes to their ability to live in Antartica's harsh climate, is their dense feathers. About 80-90% of their insulation stems from their feathers alone, being able to take on -40 degree Celsius air temp and -30 degree Celsius water temp.

All the art here is mine!
