Mantis Shrimp: 2nd Update (Eye Movement)

As stated in my first post, I will be focusing on the vision of the Mantis Shrimp. After doing some more research about the species I found the movement and functions of the eye extremely interesting and I think that understanding how the eye moves and works is integral to understanding how they see.

This is a simple diagram which shows the sections of the eye and the corresponding ways they allow the Mantis shrimp to see. It is clear from this image that the Mantis' eyes are fine tuned machines. Each eye functions separately from one another in order to have a larger scope of their environment. These eyes have three dimensions of movement: pitch, yaw and roll. Aircrafts move in these same three dimensions.

Below is a drawing I made of the Mantis shrimp's lovely eye and the directions in which it rotates.
