The easel has started to come together as my father and I have been able to put together a fully outfitted - to scale easel.
The process started when we received the wood from our local lumberyard. The first run is made from 12' strapping, This allows us to either make two 6' easels or to make a single 8-10' easel.
While the project has started to take shape, it was apparent that not only visually but structurally a thicker material might be the right choice. However this project was a wonderful introduction to the size that we are going for and to prove the plans we had made would actually work.
As the idea came together, the feeling that we were headed in the right direction started to wash over us. This allowed for us to finish the first easel and take time to be inspired by what was already around us and how we might be able to take advantage of that in order to serve this project.
The image up next is a hunting stand that I pointed out to my father on a bike ride we took. The shape and space that it took up perfectly represented the idea that we are going for the sake of process I wanted to add this image.
And here finally is the finished first draft of the easel project!
standing tall at 6' feet this easel is a wonderful proof of concept that might just be used as a teaser of the final project that will have a more refined design and finish, however as it stands the project feels to be going very well.
