Comics of Combative Coevolution - week 3

I found a good title!! Comics of Combative Coevolution~~~ cool, right? I love me some alliteration.

Hi! I'm Eve Cole. If you missed the last posts, I'm making comics about evolutionary arms races. Or combative coevolution. This week I did the final sketch on the fancy paper for the first pair, Garter Snake and Rough-Skinned Newt. I did it in blue pencil so it's lighter and easier to get rid of during inking, not great for showing off in a blog, but it's fine. Though, now I'm not sure about the title of this one. Before I was calling in Poisonous Predicament, but I don't know. It doesn't really feel right. I'll figure it out.

Okay I know last week I said I was going to do thumbnailing for the other two sets of animals (army ants vs. parasites and bats vs. moths) but then I sat down and my brain said no thoughts so instead I did more research. I looked for more info about the bats and in the YouTube recommended on the side I saw a True Facts video. Do you remember True Facts? I watched all of those videos as a kid. Stuff about animals along with poop jokes, yes please. So, despite the fact that this was one about slugs and not what I was supposed to be looking for, I watched it. Then in the recommendations of THAT, there was one about army ant parasites. Perfect. Through that video/rabbit-hole I got a bit of a better idea about that topic and decided to change which parasites I was focusing on. I'll get more into that later.
Another thing I thought about this week is the structure of the comics. The snewt one is a simple back and forth, but the ant one will be the different species showing off their espionage techniques, stealing from the powerful army ant society, so we have a good start on that. I'm not sure exactly how I want the baoth (bat v moth) one to go. Hopefully I'll figure it out this week. If not I can always just ink the pages I do have.
