For my completed piece I put a lot of emphasis on shadow and creating a dramatic and ambient scene with the cactus wren as the central figure. Being the only diagonal among a sea of cacti, it stands out against the blue and yellow sky, and puts focus on the boot as a result. The cactus serves as an anchor and a mode of protection for the wren, and is a vital component to its survival as a species. Sunset signals the coming of night, which brings its own dangers and predators, so the wren stays close and alert.
