Barracuda: Works in Progress

 Hello!

I hope you are all doing very well.

From last week's entry summarizing information on Barracudas and the process my project will go, I have finally made some headway. Along with that, I want to show you what my studio space looks like where I will be working on this project and the many other academic/personal projects throughout the next few weeks!

Taken after a well-needed spring cleaning if you will. I have my laptop and iPad close by for multiple sources and to also have music, podcasts, and even video gameplay walkthroughs to play in the background while I work. Notebooks and sticky notes to keep me organized from one subject to the other, sticky notes are for the satisfaction of crossing completed tasks off from your To-Do list.

For this week, I have completed some rough sketches of the Barracuda's skeletal structure in my sketchbook. The sketchbook for size reference is 6x3 inches, small, but convenient to carry around to draw quick inspirations/ideas. I usually sketch out my ideas in several ways to familiarize myself with the shapes and values of the design before I go through the digital process, works best for me and saves substantial amounts of time in my processes.

Sketches are seen below. How I wanted to set the sketches up is by focusing on main parts of the body, such as the head, the spine and its tail/fins. First image is the head of the Barracuda, about a 30-40 minute sketch. Their bone structure is a lot more complex than I anticipated, along with adding some fins that are close to the head structure. The second image is of the Barracuda's tail, then the third and final is the spine that connects the head and tail together with fins for proper function.

Photos scanned using Canon LiDE 400.

With the sketches of the skeletal body of the barracuda being completed, my next step is to transfer the photos into procreate and begin the line work that will be clean and easier to identify compared to my rough sketches. Once line work is completed, I will be concocting compositions to see what will looks best, whether making the bone structures into its own tattoo flasheet or do a vintage poster info graph on the skeletal structure. That may take up all next week, but if I do have time, I will also be doing sketches fo all 15 species of barracuda and how to identify them and their differences. May attach a document of all my summarized information on each individual species for further knowledge.

I hope you all enjoyed my little works in progress update on my project, as usual, more to come very soon and I cannot wait to share with you all again.
