Photography, Senior
I enjoy to work with black and white portraiture and explore the fluidity of self as well as the impact of trauma on personal growth and identity. Inspired by personal experiences that have shaped me, my images include both self-portraiture and nature as part of my exploration of self-perception, coping with traumatic experiences and the healing process.
The Life Cycle of a Fire Poppy (working title)
For my project I want to create a performative as well as observational and educational video showcasing the life cycle of a fire poppy (Papaver californicum). Fire poppy’s have a unique life cycle as they only last a couple of days at most, and the seeds, once scattered, can lie dormant for years and it is smoke that acts as a trigger for them to germinate. This phenomenon causes them to bloom wildly after devastating forest fires. I want to use these flowers (as I have on my senior thesis) as a metaphor for hope, resilience and growth. I plan on re-enacting the life cycle of these organisms on camera using props in a studio setting as well as found footage.
